Answer frameworks
S — Situation: Set the scene. When, where, what was happening.
T — Task: What was your specific responsibility or challenge.
A — Action: What YOU did — use "I" not "we".
R — Result: What happened because of your actions. Use numbers where you have them.
P — Point: State your main answer upfront. Don't bury the lead.
R — Reason: Why is that your answer? Give the logic.
E — Example: A specific story or moment that proves it.
P — Point: Come back to your main point to close strong.
P — Past: Where you were — your experience and what you built.
P — Present: Where you are now — what you bring today, including from your break.
F — Future: Where you are going — why this role fits your direction.
Best for: "Tell me about yourself" and career walkthrough questions.
1. Name it briefly: "I took [X months] away to [care for family / raise children / manage health]."
2. Own it: "It was a deliberate decision and not one I regret."
3. What you did with it: Any courses, volunteering, freelance, or relevant activity.
4. Bridge forward: "I am now fully focused on returning and bringing [X] to a team like yours."
Never apologise. Never over-explain. Confidence is the signal interviewers are reading for.
